Castillo de San Felipe de Lara, Guatemala
Parking at a pirate-themed hotel, we amble down a sandy stone path, past a graveyard. Tucked away on the banks of the Río Dulce lies the Spanish colonial fortress of Castillo de San Felipe de Lara. Winding through the stone corridors and towering battlements. Relics left behind and rusty pockmarked cannons bear the scars of buccaneer skirmishes throughout the years. Popping in and out of hidey-holes while mapping the chambers where dead men tell no tales.
