ELBA, ITALY
As Napoleon's place of exile, I think it was a good choice. A Mediterranean jewel with stony beaches that fade into the turquoise Tyrrhenian Sea. The fortress on the hill keeps watch over the town of Portoferraio and its harbor rife with history. Adding the salty scent of the sea to everything I already adore about Tuscany makes this island just about perfectissimo in my book.
